Royal AM Coach John Maduka Reveals the Strategy to Stop Mamelodi Sundowns
Royal AM's head
coach, John Maduka, has shared his insights on how to halt the dominant
Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of their DStv Premiership match on Tuesday night.
Sundowns,
currently on a remarkable 27-game unbeaten streak, pose a significant challenge
for any opponent.
Last Saturday,
Royal AM narrowly lost 1-0 to Sundowns due to a late goal by Peter Shalulile.
Despite the defeat, Royal AM's solid defense nearly earned them a draw.
Maduka
emphasized that facing Sundowns head-on is not an option.
He pointed out
that Sundowns, coached by Rulani Mokwena, play with confidence and always aim
for a win.
To counter
this, teams must be tactically disciplined.
"You have
to defend well and can’t just take the game to Sundowns because you will open
on the other side," Maduka explained.
He stressed the
importance of allowing Sundowns to have the ball only in certain areas and
preventing them from entering the defensive half, as they can create numerous
problems when given the chance.
Maduka also
highlighted the need for effective ball usage.
Poor ball
management leads to immediate pressure from Sundowns. In their last encounter,
Royal AM came close to securing a point, and Maduka believes building on that
performance is key.
In conclusion,
Maduka's strategy revolves around strong defense, tactical discipline, and
maximizing ball possession to keep Sundowns at bay.
As Royal AM
sits in 14th place, they will need to apply these tactics effectively to avoid
slipping further down the standings.
