Positive Influence at Kaizer Chiefs Highlighted by Coach Cavin Johnson

Khune’s Positive Presence at Kaizer Chiefs Praised by Coach

Kaizer Chiefs' head coach, Cavin Johnson, has praised the long-time goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune for his positive impact on the team.

Khune, who has been with the Chiefs for two decades, returned to the bench for the first time since November in the team's 1-1 draw against AmaZulu.

Return to the Bench

Khune last played for Chiefs in a match against Orlando Pirates on November 11.

He was suspended in December for reportedly arriving at training under the influence of alcohol and was stripped of his captaincy.

However, his suspension was lifted in March, and he returned to the bench due to the suspension of reserve goalkeeper Brandon Petersen.

Cavin Johnson's Praise

Coach Cavin Johnson highlighted Khune's long-standing positive influence in the dressing room.

Johnson stated, "Itu has always been positive in the dressing room, and the fact that he has been here for two decades is even more important. He knows what he has to contribute."

Khune was able to return to the bench because Petersen received a red card for protesting a decision from the sidelines.

Despite fitness issues, Khune was given the chance to be on the bench while Petersen served his suspension.

Future Prospects

Johnson indicated that Bruce Bvuma is currently the number one goalkeeper.

This suggests that Khune might not play again for Chiefs this season.

With upcoming matches against Polokwane City and Cape Town Spurs, and Chiefs aiming to finish in the top eight, it seems unlikely that Khune will get a farewell game.
